Arriving at the EMFF – All You Need To Know!

So, EMFF weekend has arrived! First things first – tickets will be available on the door for all sessions on the day.

Next up – the venue is the Gordon Aikman Lecture Theatre (formerly  know as George Square Lecture Theatre) at Edinburgh University! For directions and full venue details, click here.

OK, now we’ve covered the basics, what else? This brief guide will take you through the simple process from checking ticket availability to arriving at the theatre to settling down in your seat!

Ticket Availability

Tickets will be available on the door for all sessions on the day. We do recommend buying tickets in advance using our online system – that means you will arrive at the venue with your tickets. You can even buy them online rather than stand in line for tickets! Note that the price is the same whether you buy them online or in cash – there are no extra fees for buying them online.

If you are planning to buy tickets on the door then please note it is cash payments only! Please arrive with enough time to buy tickets and take your seat before the session begins – the ticket desk is open 45 mins before a session begins. Remember, tickets can be booked online up until the show starts (including while you are standing at the ticket desk when you realise you don’t have any cash on you!). Click here to buy tickets for any session (remember you can only buy tickets for 1 session in each transaction).

Travel & Parking

We like to encourage sustainable travel, so please walk, ride your bike or take the bus if you can. Car-share if there are a group of you. There is on-street parking around the Gordon Aikman Lecture Theatre. It is metered on Saturday until 6.30pm but is often free on Sunday. There are also several off-street parking facilities nearby such as Q-Park at Quartermile.

Arrival At Gordon Aikman Lecture Theatre

If you don’t already have a ticket, you will need cash to pay for it as we don’t accept card payments on the door. If you don’t have a ticket, please make your way upstairs to the ticket desk and buy your ticket. Once that’s done you are free to grab a drink from the bar or visit the stands of the festival sponsors and charities.

If you have already bought tickets online, they will have been emailed to you at the time of booking, so it’s a good idea to find them now rather than wait until 2 minutes before the show starts!

Once you have located your ticket email, please either 1) add the ticket to the ‘wallet’ of your smartphone and make sure you bring your phone; or 2) bring a printed copy of your ticket. On arrival, you can relax, grab a drink or visit the stands. When you want to go into the theatre to get your seat, simply go upstairs and someone will scan your ticket, which then allows you entry. If you’ve bought multiple tickets, you’ll need to bring them all as each ticket only scans once.

We don’t reserve seating in the lecture theatre except by pre-arrangement for special access needs or larger groups. So simply find a seat, make yourself comfy and wait for the session to begin. You can bring drinks and snacks into the theatre – but please take your rubbish / recycling away at the end!

Please note!

When it’s busy, please bear with us and be nice to the lovely team of volunteers who are giving up their weekend to help make the EMFF happen! If you have any feedback on the EMFF weekend, please email us after the event. Thanks!

The Bar at the EMFF

We have a bar onsite, located on the ground floor of the building. It will stock tasty craft beers, as well as a variety of other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. They will also serve teas, coffees and soft drinks, as well as a range of snacks. It doesn’t serve meals but there are lots of cafes near the Gordon Aikman Lecture Theatre.

And finally…

We don’t update our website over festival weekend. Therefore we recommend following our Facebook page  or Twitter feed for the latest updates from #TheEMFF

We hope you enjoy #TheEMFF and look forward to seeing you this weekend!
